Dallas Cowboys Secure Tyler Guyton in 1st Round NFL Draft Pick

In the high-stakes world of the NFL Draft, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had clear objectives Thursday night.

First on his list: acquire an extra draft pick, aiming to trade down from the 24th spot in the first round.

Second, and equally crucial, was to fill the void left by the departure of Tyron Smith, a future Hall of Famer who joined the New York Jets earlier this year. The solution? Selecting Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton with the 29th pick after a trade with the Detroit Lions, which also secured the Cowboys a third-round pick.

Standing tall at 6-foot-7.75, weighing 322 pounds, with 34-inch arms, Guyton possesses the prototypical attributes of an NFL left tackle, despite his limited experience.

Remarkably, Guyton’s football journey started late. He transitioned from basketball to football in his senior year at Manor High School, later earning a scholarship to TCU and then transferring to Oklahoma, where he showcased his talent as a right tackle.

Now, with the Cowboys, Guyton faces the daunting task of filling Smith’s shoes. But with confidence from Oklahoma offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, who considers Guyton the most talented prospect he’s coached, the Cowboys believe they’ve found their man.

As the Cowboys turn their focus to the second round, attention may shift to Texas RB Jonathon Brooks, a player Jones praised for his remarkable interview. However, with plenty of talent still available, the Cowboys have multiple options to consider as the draft continues.
