According to reports, Ousmane Dembele and PSG have reached a five-year contract agreement. Bringing him one step closer to joining the French champions. PSG will pay Barcelona a €50 million release clause once the trade is finalized, with half of that sum going to Dembele and his agency.
Despite this clause, Barça are expected to free up a chunk of the wage budget following the sale of Dembele. This will enable them to sign a new player in the market.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Barcelona will likely seek out a right-back following the impending sale of Dembele.
For Barcelona, the right-back position has indeed recently turned into a weakness. The club is now left without a viable alternative in the position because Sergio Dest is struggling to perform.
The La Liga winners have been obliged to hunt for a replacement since Jules Kounde isn’t willing to serve as a stand-in right-back any longer.
Joao Cancelo remains the priority target
According to the reputable Italian transfer expert, Barça has already narrowed down its top targets, who include Joao Cancelo and Ivan Fresneda.
The Catalans continue to prioritise Cancelo because of his technical prowess and expertise.
For some time now, the Blaugrana have been keeping an eye on Cancelo’s situation. Although Man City are aiming for a €50 million transfer fee, he is available on the market.
Barcelona is expected to pursue Fresneda if Cancelo’s price rises to an unaffordable level. The young Real Valladolid player might be available for a price of between €10 and €20 million.
But Fresneda has struggled to gain the confidence of Barcelona’s coaching staff. With many citing his hefty price and relative inexperience at the top level of football.
But since time is running out, Barcelona must make a choice as they attempt to fix one of the main issues with the present team.
