Yankees P Luis Severino feels like ‘the worst pitcher in the league’

The Orioles 9-3 thrashing of last-place New York on Sunday was a microcosm of the AL East season as a whole. Baltimore now leads baseball’s finest division by a wide margin. The majority of the Yankees players had a difficult night, but starting pitcher Luis Severino in particular struggled as he was removed after just 3 1/3 innings. It was probably already too late even then.

The Orioles jumped up to a 7-0 lead in the game’s first inning, which was a disaster for Severino. With Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson each receiving two at-bats, the entire Orioles lineup batted in the inning. Seven hits, including two doubles and a three-run home run by Adam Frazier, were delivered by Severino.

He issued one walk and permitted a base steal, which led to the seventh run of the inning.

He relaxed and the second and third innings ended without a score. However, a wild pitch and two earned runs in the fourth inning ended his night.
The former two-time All-Star, whose recent seasons have been derailed by injury, has had a difficult time. His ERA increased from 6.46 to 7.49 on Sunday. Since June 1, he has given up seven earned runs or more in four of his games. He has a record of 2–5 as a result.

After the game, he did not go easy on himself

“Right now I feel like the worst pitcher in the game, Severino said, per Newsday. No doubt about it. … Nothing that I do is working.”

The Yankees still have a lot to play for despite their difficulties and their current position in last place. They are without a doubt baseball’s best last-place team at 55-50. They are only 3.5 games back in the chase for the wild card even though they are nine games behind the 64-41 Orioles.

Their bats must come to life if they hope to go to the postseason. Additionally helpful would be a Severino comeback.
