The 24-year-old Slovenian cyclist, who represents UAE Team Emirates, suffered an injury during the Liege-Bastogne-Liege race in April. Discover Tour de France, Tadej Pogacar injury came at ‘perfect time’ for third title bid.
However, the timing of the accident turned out to be advantageous as it allowed him to rest before his attempt to win a third Tour de France title.
“I’ve been back on the road for a few weeks now,” Pogacar shared with the UAE’s National. “In a way, you could say it happened at the perfect time. Of course, I didn’t wish for it to happen like that, but I was actually in need of a long break, and the injury forced me to rest a bit more than planned.”
Originally, Pogacar had scheduled a four-week break to prepare for the Tour de France, which is set to commence in Bilbao, Spain, on July 1st.
Prior to the crash in Belgium, Pogacar had already claimed victories in the Tour of Flanders, Amstel Gold Race, and La Fleche Wallonne.
“It has been an unconventional preparation due to the wrist injury, but overall, it has been really positive,” Pogacar expressed.
Having won the Tour de France in both 2020 and 2021, Pogacar narrowly missed out on a third consecutive title last year, finishing second to Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard.
Nonetheless, Pogacar conveyed his enthusiasm for his prospects in this year’s race.
He said;
“We have a great team and understand each other well. There will also be strong competitors so it won’t be straightforward, but we’ll give it a good crack,”
