Rose Zhang, the 20-year-old golf prodigy who recently made history by winning back-to-back NCAA titles, is set to make her professional debut at the LPGA Mizuho Americas Open. Accompanying her on this new journey is experienced caddie Jason Gilroyed, who previously worked with Minjee Lee for five seasons.
Zhang’s remarkable college career at Stanford includes an impressive record of 12 tournament victories in just 20 starts, including eight wins in the current season. Her 12 career college titles not only set a new Stanford record, surpassing notable names like Tiger Woods, Patrick Rodgers, and Maverick McNealy but also matched Lorena Ochoa’s record for the most wins in Pac-12 history. With a scoring average of 68.81 over 31 rounds, Zhang showcased her exceptional skills and talent.
As she embarks on her professional journey, Zhang has secured exemptions for all four major tournaments this summer, including the prestigious U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach. Gilroyed and his son Tyler, a student at SMU, had the opportunity to visit Zhang at Stanford, where they explored the campus, had dinner together, and even played a practice round at Pebble Beach with the director of golf. Impressed by Zhang’s performance and precision, Gilroyed, who has caddied for several LPGA players over the years, believes her game resembles that of Jin Young Ko.
With Gilroyed’s wealth of experience and a talented player like Zhang, the duo is set to make waves in the professional golf scene. Zhang’s remarkable achievements in college golf and her exciting transition to the professional ranks make her a player to watch in the upcoming LPGA events.
