Rangers place ace Jacob deGrom on 60-day injured list, schedule MRI

The Texas Rangers have made a huge move by moving their star pitcher, Jacob deGrom, to the 60-day injured list due to persistent elbow inflammation that has prevented him from

action since April 29. Previously on the 15-day injured list, this move is retroactive but further delays his potential return to the Rangers’ lineup, with June 28 being the earliest possible date.

General Manager Chris Young, speaking to the Dallas Morning News, acknowledged that deGrom’s symptoms have been intermittent, but refrained from confirming or denying any setbacks in his recovery. The team plans to gain more insight into his condition through a second MRI on the injured elbow, with further updates expected on Tuesday.

The team will know more Tuesday after deGrom has a second MRI on the injured elbow.

We want to proceed cautiously and do what’s right by him,” Young told the News. “That’s the biggest factor in this move. We want to make sure the inflammation is gone.
“The [symptoms] have come and gone. He’s had good days and bad. It’s not been linear.”

DeGrom, a decorated pitcher with two Cy Young awards during his tenure with the New York Mets, joined the Texas Rangers last offseason under a lucrative five-year, $185 million contract. Prior to his injury, the soon-to-be 35-year-old made six starts for the Rangers, showcasing impressive numbers with a 2.67 ERA, 0.758 WHIP, 45 strikeouts, and only four walks across 30 1/3 innings.

The prolonged absence of deGrom is undoubtedly a setback for the Texas Rangers, who had counted on his exceptional skills and experience to bolster their pitching rotation. The team will closely monitor his recovery and make decisions based on his health and progress moving forward.
