After Pakistan’s disappointing display in the 2023 World Cup, Babar Azam’s captaincy has come under increased scrutiny. Discover Potential players to replace Babar Azam as captain.
Numerous former cricketers have recommended that he step down from the captaincy and focus exclusively on refining his batting skills. However, conflicting opinions exist, with some suggesting that Babar Azam should remain captain for the Test series against Australia while relinquishing leadership in limited-overs formats.

Babar Azam may get option to resign from captaincy
Today, Babar Azam is set to meet Zaka Ashraf, the head of the PCB management committee, at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. During the meeting, Babar may be presented with the option to resign from the captaincy.
In the race for the captain’s role in the upcoming Test series against Australia, Shan Masood has emerged as a strong contender, while Shaheen Shah Afridi is being considered for the T20I series in New Zealand.
Sarfaraz was initially considered for the Test captaincy, but close associates advised against accepting the role, citing the challenging nature of the Australia Test tour for a new captain.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, with consecutive titles with Lahore Qalandars, is being touted as a potential leader for the Men in Green in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Additionally, Imad Wasim, currently undergoing training at the National Cricket Academy, may also be in contention. Following stellar performances in PSL 8, Imad made a comeback in the T20I side and is now a regular member. His noteworthy displays for Jamaica Tallawahs in the recent CPL edition in the West Indies, the venue for the next T20 World Cup, have strengthened his case. He is also expected to meet with the PCB chief in the near future.
