Fred Hoiberg, head coach of Nebraska men’s basketball, is set to continue his tenure with a two-year contract extension, announced by interim athletic director Dennis Leblanc. With a renewed deal through the 2028-29 season, Hoiberg’s annual salary will rise to $4.25 million, effective April 1.
Hoiberg’s leadership steered the Cornhuskers to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2014. Seeded No. 8, Nebraska is gearing up to face Texas A&M in Memphis, Tennessee, on Friday.
With an impressive record of 23-10, the Huskers secured their second-highest number of wins in program history, marking their best conference finish since 1993, clinching third place in the Big Ten.

Expressing gratitude for the administration’s trust, Hoiberg emphasized his commitment to building a program that resonates with Nebraska’s values and garners fan support. Born in Lincoln, with familial ties to the university, Hoiberg’s connection to the Huskers runs deep.
Despite facing initial challenges, including a 24-67 record in his first three seasons, Hoiberg’s resilience and dedication have been evident. Notably, Nebraska’s performance since February 2023 ranks third-best in the Big Ten, reflecting a positive trajectory under his leadership.
As Nebraska embarks on its NCAA tournament journey, Hoiberg’s extension signals a vote of confidence in his coaching prowess and the program’s future prospects.
