Yoel Romero, an MMA legend, has announced that he will make his boxing debut at a later time and has promised to “see you soon” in the meanwhile.
On Friday night in Chicago, the Bellator fighter will face Vadim Nemkov, who has appeared untouchable in his rise to the top of the company, in a contest for the light-heavyweight championship. He also asserts that he has at least six more years remaining in the sport and is preparing for further title defends despite being closer to 50 than 40.
Romero, who competed for his nation as a wrestler in the Olympics and later made the successful transfer to MMA, where he has competed for world titles, is eager to transition to boxing as well. He has a lot of offers available for a move into the ring and was formerly thought of as a challenger for Jake Paul.
There is definitely something in the works, but I can’t tell what it is just yet. I’ll see you soon.
Romero has twice competed for the world championship while competing for the UFC. The first time was a loss to Robert Whittaker for the interim title in 2017. His second attempt, this time against Israel Adesanya for the undisputed belt in 2020, days before the coronavirus epidemic began, was an odd performance in which neither fighter truly got into it and the bout stalled out.
Dealing with setbacks and staying focused: Anthony Joshua’s perspective
And despite the fact that this attempt in particular follows an initial cancellation, he maintains that all of his endeavors to obtain gold were unique. He continued, “I don’t think it’s the most significant battle of my career. “It’s a huge fight, but all the belts were huge to me before. Every title battle is huge, and nobody is more important than anyone else.
“These things of fights falling through happens, when the fight fell through we took it with as much professionalism as you need for something like that. All we did was lower a little bit of the training, started working towards new training and now we’re back ready for Friday night.”
