MLB announced on Wednesday that N.Y Yankees relief pitcher Jimmy Cordero has been suspended for the remainder of the 2023 season. Due to a violation of MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Cordero has accepted the suspension and has been placed on the restricted list. Resulting in a suspension without pay that is effective immediately.
The Yankees have expressed their full support for MLB’s investigative process and the disciplinary action taken against Jimmy Cordero. They have affirmed their stance against domestic violence. Also have aligned themselves with MLB’s objectives, standards, and enforcement of the policy.
Cordero, a 31-year-old right-handed relief pitcher. He began his professional career as an amateur free agent with the Blue Jays in 2012. He has since played for the Nationals, Blue Jays, White Sox, and is currently with the Yankees. In 31 appearances this season, Cordero has recorded a 3.86 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 34 strikeouts with 10 walks in 32 2/3 innings.

- Jimmy Cordero, 76 games
Yankees manager Aaron Boone was informed of the suspension the previous night and commented on it, noting that Cordero had informed him a couple of days earlier about an ongoing investigation. Cordero’s suspension comes after his season-high workload of 42 pitches in a game on July 2.
The 76-game suspension effectively covers the remaining games of the Yankees’ season.
The league mandates that Cordero must participate in a confidential evaluation and treatment program supervised by the Joint Policy Board. The specifics of Cordero’s breach are still not public knowledge at this time.
