Mercedes chief makes SHOCKING W14 upgrade admission

Mercedes‘ head of trackside engineering, Andrew Shovlin, has acknowledged that the team’s recent upgrade package may not be sufficient to secure race victories. The upgrades were introduced during the Monaco Grand Prix, but their true impact is yet to be fully realized.

The upcoming Spanish Grand Prix is expected to provide a clearer assessment of the progress made by the team, as there is an abundance of track data available due to extensive pre-season testing at the circuit.

Mercedes achieved fourth and fifth-place finishes in Monaco, closing the gap to Aston Martin to just one point in their pursuit of second place in the constructor standings.

Shovlin expressed some disappointment with the qualifying performance, acknowledging that there was room for improvement in Q3.

While Lewis Hamilton provided positive feedback on the car’s performance, Shovlin remained cautious about setting high expectations. He emphasized that other teams are also introducing upgrades during this busy period of the season. Although the Mercedes team has put significant effort into the upgrades and is confident in their direction, they recognize that further work is necessary to achieve the desired level of performance.

In summary, while Mercedes has made strides with their recent upgrades, there is an awareness that more work lies ahead to meet its objectives.
