Max Verstappen quit Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton, 38, is allegedly expecting to sign new terms in the next few days, and it appears that he is close to securing a better deal at Mercedes. The British driver, who now only has a contract with Mercedes through the end of this year but has been heavily rumored to extend it before his current term expires, has fallen behind Max Verstappen in the race for F1 supremacy since losing out to his Red Bull opponent in 2021.
In the past few weeks, there have been behind-the-scenes discussions, indicating that all sides are close to reaching a new contract for Hamilton. The contract would extend his stay at Mercedes until the end of the 2025 season. Earlier this week, Toto Wolff eagerly anticipated a resolution in the next few days, indicating that a decision might even be made before the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
In response to a question about Hamilton’s contract negotiations, Wolff said to CNBC,
“It is going to happen soon, and we are talking more days than weeks.”
“We are making a lot of effort to finish it before the Canadian Grand Prix.” Today when I see him, we might talk about it. Since we get along so well, we dread the day when we have to discuss money.
