According to reports, Marco Asensio will depart Real Madrid this summer as his contract expires, opting to join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on a free transfer. The Athletic reveals that the 27-year-old winger has already reached an agreement with PSG for a long-term contract, which will see him earn €10 million (£8.5m/$11m) per year. While the deal has yet to be officially signed, Asensio is expected to complete the formalities after the current season concludes.
After eight years with Real Madrid, Asensio made the decision in May to turn down the club’s offer for a contract extension at the Santiago Bernabeu. Negotiations had been ongoing since December, but the Spanish international opted for a new chapter in his career. Asensio initially joined Real Madrid in 2015 from Mallorca and was later loaned to Espanyol for a brief period.
Although Asensio had garnered interest from Premier League side Aston Villa, as well as clubs in Italy, he ultimately chose to team up with Kylian Mbappe in the French capital, joining PSG. The winger’s move to PSG marks a significant step in his career, as he aims to contribute to the ambitious project of the Parisian club.
As the season draws to a close, Asensio’s departure from Real Madrid and subsequent arrival at PSG will undoubtedly generate attention among football fans. The winger’s skills and contributions during his time at Real Madrid have left an indelible mark, and supporters will eagerly anticipate his performances in the renowned PSG jersey.
