LIV Golf League has made a significant change to its schedule by swapping the locations of its events in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Miami, Florida. The season-ending Team Championship, originally planned for Jeddah. It will now take place in Miami, making it the final event of the season.
The original schedule had Miami’s LIV Golf event at Doral as the penultimate event, with Jeddah serving as the finale. However, the Saudi Arabia tournament has been rescheduled to take place earlier at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club from October 13 to 15.
Jeddah will now be the last regular-season event, determining the individual title and finalizing the seeding for the team event. The Miami event will follow the next week, from October 20 to 23. Featuring a combination of match play and stroke play to determine the overall team winner for the season.
Greg Norman, the commissioner of LIV Golf League, expressed enthusiasm for returning to the Blue Monster at Doral. He emphasizes the excitement surrounding the team concept in the league. The Miami tournament was a popular event last year, prompting questions as to why it wasn’t initially selected as the season-ending tournament. Especially considering the lower attendance at the Saudi Arabian events.
Following the regular season in Jeddah, the top three players in the season-long points race will receive bonuses. Last year, Dustin Johnson secured the top spot and earned a $17 million prize. The 12 teams will also be seeded for the season-ending event in Miami, with the winning team receiving $16 million. The top four teams will be granted a first-round bye.
