Monterrey, a Mexican club, is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to acquire Spanish international Sergio Canales from Real Betis to join Liga MX club. The potential transfer is expected to make a significant impact in the transfer market. Monterrey is willing to pay a fee ranging from $12 million to $15 million for the versatile attacking midfielder. The contract details between Canales and Monterrey remain undisclosed at this time.
Canales, who has excelled since joining Betis in 2018, can operate in various midfield positions and even on the wing. He has made 207 appearances for Betis, scoring 39 goals and providing 30 assists. In the 2021/22 LaLiga season, Canales created the highest number of scoring chances among midfielders with 121.

Although he was a part of the Spain squad that won the UEFA Nations League finals in June 2022/23, injuries have hindered Canales’ progress at the international level. Throughout his career, he has played for Racing Santander, Real Madrid, Valencia, Real Sociedad, and now Betis. In over 500 club games, Canales has scored a total of 68 goals.
Since his debut for the Spanish national team in 2018, Canales has earned 11 caps and scored one goal for La Roja.
