Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1, and Toto Wolff, team principal of Mercedes, have made a joint appeal to protesters, urging them to avoid risking their lives during the British GP. The previous year’s race witnessed the Just Stop Oil group entering the track on the Wellington straight, but fortunately, a red flag was raised due to a crash, averting disaster. Concerns have now arisen about the group’s potential return to Silverstone after disrupting other sporting events such as the World Snooker Championships, the Ashes Test, and Wimbledon.
During an event at 10 Downing Street alongside UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Domenicali and Wolff stressed the dangers associated with such actions and emphasized that Formula 1 is actively contributing to the cause of sustainability at. Domenicali expressed strong disapproval of jeopardizing an event attended by 100,000 people, stating that it is not an appropriate platform for dangerous activities. Wolff underscored Formula 1’s commitment to sustainability, highlighting the introduction of sustainable fuels by 2026 and the sport’s technological innovations. He further emphasized the concern for the safety of drivers like George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, as well as the spectators and fans, urging everyone to prioritize their well-being and avoid any risks.
