England’s pace bowling attack will be without James Anderson and Ollie Robinson for the upcoming one-off Test against Ireland at Lord’s, starting on June 1. Both players have been sidelined due to injuries but are expected to recover in time for the Ashes series.
Anderson sustained a groin strain while playing for Lancashire against Somerset, while Robinson experienced Achilles tendon irritation during his match for Sussex against Glamorgan in the County Championship. Although they won’t be available for the Test against Ireland, they are on track to be fit for the first Ashes Test commencing on June 16.
Brendon McCullum, England’s head coach, confirmed the injuries and expressed confidence in having a strong squad to choose from. He stated that Anderson and Robinson should be ready for the Ashes Test, but their absence will be felt in the match against Ireland. McCullum emphasized that the team is monitoring the situation closely and has several talented options throughout the squad.
McCullum also provided positive updates on skipper Ben Stokes, noting that he is progressing well and appears fit. He expressed optimism about Stokes returning to bowling during the crucial summer of cricket for England. Whether Stokes is able to bowl or not, McCullum expressed confidence in finding a way to utilize his skills as a world-class all-rounder.
England will commence their cricketing summer with a four-day Test against Ireland from June 1 to 4, followed by the highly anticipated Ashes series against Australia, scheduled between June 16 and July 31.
