Candice Warner, wife of Australian team opener David Warner, recently shared a cryptic post on social media, sparking speculation about her husband’s future in Test cricket. She mentioned that it was the end of an era for them touring with Test cricket and expressed her unwavering support for him. In June, David Warner Australian team opener himself had hinted that the upcoming Test match against Pakistan would likely be his last, stating that he needed to perform well and that the T20 World Cup would probably be his final game.
She said;
“I probably owe it to myself and my family if I can score runs here [to] continue to play back in Australia. I can definitely say I won’t be playing that West Indies series. If I can get through this and make the Pakistan series I will definitely finish up then.”
Warner has faced ongoing challenges against Stuart Broad and the Dukes ball since the 2019 Ashes series. Broad dismissed him for the 17th time in his Test career during the third Ashes Test at Headingly in Leeds. This has once again raised concerns about Warner’s ability to handle the moving ball and his struggles against Broad. With the series standing at 2-1 heading into the next Test at Old Trafford. Questions have been raised about his place in the team.
When asked about the team combination for the upcoming Test. Captain Pat Cummins stated that they would keep all their options open and take some time to assess the situation. As they have a nine or ten-day break before the next match.
