Daniel Ricciardo is set to make a comeback to the track with Red Bull as confirmed by team motorsport advisor Helmut Marko. Ricciardo will drive the RB19 during the upcoming British Grand Prix at Silverstone in order to assess his pace.
Ricciardo told ESPN earlier in the year.
“I’ve been in the simulator, but I will drive the RB19 (for the first time) in July after the Silverstone race,
Then maybe I’ll get another one after Monza as well in September.”
Having started his career with Red Bull, Ricciardo has been working as a reserve driver for the team in 2023. Fulfilling simulator duties and media responsibilities.
After leaving Red Bull in 2019 to separate himself from the emerging Max Verstappen. Ricciardo had stints of two years each at Renault and McLaren before Australian rookie. Oscar Piastri unexpectedly replaced him last year.
Instead of signing with a lower-ranked team, Ricciardo opted to skip the 2023 season and return to Red Bull as a reserve driver. He has been vocal about his desire to return to the sport. He sees to be the Silverstone test as an opportunity to remind the grid of his abilities.
Helmut Marko stated that Ricciardo will have three days in the car for a tire test. After the Silverstone race, providing a chance to evaluate his performance.
The Silverstone test has been long-planned, and Ricciardo previously expressed his excitement to drive the RB19, a car that he still finds familiar.
With Max Verstappen extending his lead in the Drivers’ Championship. Sergio Perez has struggled to match his pace and has faced mechanical issues. Marko acknowledged that the team prioritizes Verstappen, a two-time World Champion, but also emphasized the importance of considering the future.
The Formula One calendar includes the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring followed by the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
