In the realm of NFL equipment teams, the Cowboys stand tall, securing the prestigious title of the 2023 NFC Equipment Team of the Year, an accolade sponsored by New Era.
Led by equipment director Mike McCord, alongside equipment manager Bucky Buchanan and assistant manager Dylan Keane, the Cowboys’ gear squad received this esteemed recognition at the NFL owners meeting in Orlando.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized by both our peers and the NFL,” McCord remarked. “There’s a tremendous amount of effort that goes into this. From our interns to Bucky, Dylan, and myself, and with support from our staff, winning this award means a lot to us.”
McCord emphasized the pivotal role of head coach Mike McCarthy in clinching the award, highlighting McCarthy’s commitment to donning the appropriate sideline apparel, a crucial factor in the selection process.
“The head coach’s choice of headwear is significant due to the extensive TV coverage we receive,” McCord explained. “Coach McCarthy has consistently supported us by wearing the designated hat without fail.”
Upon learning of the award, McCord wasted no time in reaching out to McCarthy, acknowledging the coach’s previous success with the Green Bay Packers’ equipment staff, which earned the same honor multiple times.
As stalwarts of the Cowboys’ equipment team, McCord, entering his 36th season, Buchanan, marking his 30th year, and Keane, a member since 2012, continue to uphold the standard of excellence that defines America’s Team.
