Dallas Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons has been notably absent from the team’s voluntary workouts and organized team activities (OTAs), and head coach Mike McCarthy isn’t hiding his disappointment.
In a press conference this week, McCarthy addressed Parsons’ absence, labeling it an “opportunity that’s been missed.” The coach emphasized the importance of these sessions, especially under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
“Any time you have a chance to be together, it’s an opportunity to improve,” McCarthy stated, according to the Cowboys’ official website. “Whether it’s in the mental realm, the physical realm, or building the emotional connection. Training camp is where it all comes together, but this is definitely an opportunity missed for Parsons.”
McCarthy didn’t mince words about the impact of Parsons’ absence. He highlighted how critical these early sessions are for team cohesion and individual growth. Despite his absence, the coach acknowledged that the responsibility ultimately falls on Parsons to be prepared when training camp begins.

“At the end of the day, everybody has a responsibility,” McCarthy continued. “We have this period for regulated football activity. Fortunately, 98 percent of our team has been here, and we’ve accomplished a lot. Everyone, whether they’re here or not, needs to get what they need, because training camp is our real opportunity for football.”
While the Cowboys would prefer Parsons’ presence at these sessions, they remain confident in his ability to step up when it counts. Parsons, known for his athleticism and playmaking ability, will need to ensure he’s in peak form by the time the team heads to Oxnard for training camp.
The onus is on him to bridge the gap left by missing these early opportunities and be ready for the rigorous NFL season ahead.
