Copa America 2024: Messi Dismisses Injury Fears After Narrow Win Over Chile

Copa America 2024: Lionel Messi downplayed injury concerns following Argentina’s narrow 1-0 victory against Chile at the MetLife Stadium. Messi, a pivotal figure for Argentina, caused a stir when he appeared to struggle with discomfort in his right leg during the first half.

“I played after several days of sore throat and fever, and this may have affected me. As for the injury, it is not something old or something I was suffering from. It is a muscle spasm,” Messi reassured after the match.

During the game, Messi was attended to by the medical team for a few minutes but returned to finish the match. “I felt discomfort in my right hamstring at the beginning of the game. It was tight, it wasn’t as loose as it should have been. But I was able to finish the game. We’ll see how it goes,” Messi added.

Despite his discomfort, Messi played a crucial role in securing the win. His 88th-minute corner kick set up Lautaro Martinez, who found the back of the net, ensuring Argentina’s victory and their advancement to the quarterfinals of Copa America 2024.
