Isaiah Rodgers, a cornerback and kick returner for the Indianapolis Colts, expressed regret on Monday after it emerged that the NFL was looking into possible violations of its betting rules.
Following a revelation that a then-unidentified player engaged in “pervasive” betting practice’s, including wagers on Colts games, the Colts announced the existence of the investigation earlier on Monday.
The statement states, “We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will have no further comment at this time.”
The NFL was looking into a Colts player for possible infractions of the league’s sports betting policy, according to Sports Handle, when the Colts released their statement. According to a source who spoke with the site, there is proof that the player wagered on hundreds of games, some of which included wagers on the Colts. It’s unclear if he was charged with gambling on the Colts’ outcome. The player was not named in the story, but Rodgers was the focus of the inquiry, according to a later report from ESPN. He put the majority of his wagers between 2022 and 2023, according to Sports Handle.
Rodgers stated
‘I’ve let people down that I care about’
Rodgers issued his apology on social media following the ESPN report that identified him.
Addressing the current reports, I want to take full responsibility for my actions, Rodgers wrote. “I know I have made mistakes and I am willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situations. The last thing I ever wanted to do was to be a distraction to the Colts organization, my coaches, and my teammates.
“I’ve let people down that I care about. I made an error in judgment and I am going to work hard to make sure that those mistakes are rectified through this process. It’s an honor to play in the NFL and I have never taken that lightly. I am very sorry for all of this.”
