Cavaliers Committed to Keeping “Big Four” Together Amid Trade Rumors

The Cleveland Cavaliers seem determined to maintain their “Big Four,” despite swirling trade rumors. Earlier whispers of a potential breakup have been quashed by recent reports indicating the Cavs’ renewed commitment to their core.

NBA insider Jake Fischer shared that the Cavaliers are not keen on trading any of their key players, even if there are pressures from player agents. “The Cavs don’t appear very motivated to listen to trade inquiries for any member of their core four,” Fischer wrote. This comes amid speculation that Darius Garland’s representation at Klutch Sports might push for a trade if Donovan Mitchell signs a long-term extension.

Despite the team performing best with one guard and one center on the court, the Cavaliers aren’t rushing to offload either Evan Mobley or Jarrett Allen. Mobley, at just 22, is seen as untouchable, while Allen, who developed strong chemistry with Mitchell, remains a crucial part of the team.

“The Cavaliers have not been truly keen on entertaining rival teams’ offers for Allen,” Fischer noted, highlighting the powerful on-court connection between Allen and Mitchell during a successful winter stretch.

After the Cavaliers’ disappointing second-round exit, many expected trade maneuvers. Even LeBron James was rumored to be eyeing the situation earlier in the season. However, the internal sentiment has shifted, possibly due to a lack of favorable trade options or the inherent risks of breaking up a talented core.

This shift leaves the backcourt as the primary area of concern. Mitchell has downplayed rumors of his discontent, but the situation with Garland is more complex. Garland’s camp has hinted at a trade request if Mitchell stays, citing a lack of fit rather than personal conflict.

Brian Windhorst elaborated on this, saying, “Klutch Sports will have a conversation with the Cavs if Mitchell stays. It’s not because Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell are at each other’s throats, it’s because they don’t fit.”

Garland, who posted solid numbers this season, could complicate matters if he pushes for a move. Despite this, the Cavaliers might be best served by keeping their core intact. The collective talent of Mobley, Allen, Garland, and Mitchell is formidable, and another season together might be what they need to truly click.

With Mitchell’s free agency looming, the Cavs’ best chance to stay competitive could lie in convincing their stars to give it one more shot, ensuring they leave it all on the court next season.
