The offseason brought significant changes to the Cowboys’ offensive line. With training camp in Oxnard fast approaching, much remains to be sorted out. The departure of Tyler Biadasz to the Washington Commanders leaves a crucial vacancy at the center. Stepping up is third-year interior lineman Brock Hoffman, who faces competition from rookie Cooper Beebe.
Hoffman, eyeing his first starting role, sees this as a chance to lead rather than feel threatened. “I know my skill set,” Hoffman said. “I have to be a good teammate and help this room. If I get hurt, someone else has to step up like I did last year.”
Unlike many veterans, Hoffman welcomes the competition. “We’re teammates first,” he stressed. “If he’s pushing me and I’m pushing him, we’re both getting better. Competition breeds excellence.”
Hoffman and Beebe have quickly formed a bond. Hoffman admires Beebe’s intelligence and versatility. “Cooper’s smart, learning centre and taking reps at guard. He’s strong and picking up the offence fast,” Hoffman noted. “He asks me and Zack questions, and we’ve helped him out. He’s adapted well.”
Transitioning from mentee to mentor is a new experience for Hoffman. “It’s different but cool,” he shared. “I talked to Biadasz about this. I’ve moved from a backup centre to more of a leadership role, but still not the big vet in the room. I’d describe it as being the middle child.”
While helping Beebe, Hoffman remains focused on his own improvement. He plans to stay in Dallas after minicamp to train. “Since OTAs, I’ve gotten more comfortable with the system,” he said. “Knowing formations, fronts, and looks helps take pressure off the quarterback. The run game is my focus now.”
Excited for his first major NFL opportunity, Hoffman looks forward to the competition. “I’m pumped to start training camp, get in there, and compete.”
The battle for the centre position promises to be one of the most intriguing storylines as the Cowboys prepare for the upcoming season.
