In a thrilling 8-6 victory against the Los Angeles Angels, the Boston Red Sox showcased their offensive prowess with five home runs, extending their winning streak to five games.
However, amidst the celebration, concerns loom large over the status of shortstop Trevor Story, who exited the game in the fourth inning due to a shoulder injury sustained during a defensive dive.
Manager Alex Cora expressed the team’s apprehension, stating, “They’re going to check on him tomorrow and we’ll know more. Right now, we’re just hoping for the best.”
Describing the incident, Story revealed, “It was pretty painful. Landed all the body weight on the shoulder there. … It all happened so fast.”
Teammate Kutter Crawford echoed the sentiments of the clubhouse, emphasizing Story’s value to the team and expressing hope for his swift recovery: “That’s never a good feeling…He’s so valuable to us. Hopefully, everything will be OK with him.”
Story’s leadership and defensive prowess have been pivotal for the Red Sox, who struggled with errors in the past season. His absence could pose challenges for Boston’s infield stability moving forward.
Manager Cora reflected on Story’s significance, saying, “He’s a guy that very quietly has become the leader of this team…Hopefully, he’ll be with us soon.”
Despite the setback, the Red Sox found positives in the game, including standout performances by Reese McGuire and Triston Casas, who each notched their first home runs of the season.
As the Red Sox face uncertainty over Story’s injury, their resilience will be tested in the upcoming games, including the continuation of their series against the Angels on Saturday night.
