Angel City FC, which has played in the NWSL for less than two seasons, will apparently be seeking for a new head coach.
After 28 games, the club sacked coach Freya Coombe, according to Meg Linehan of The Athletic. Regarding the report, Angel City declined to respond to the Athletic.
With just nine points and two victories so far this year, Angel City is now tied for 11th place in the NWSL standings. They have lost four straight games and haven’t experienced victory since May 7.
Coombe left NJ/NY Gotham in 2021 and joined Angel City for the team’s inaugural season in 2022. She led Gotham to a 9-9-13 record to the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup final before quitting in the middle of the campaign to take the helm at Angel City. In the second division of English women’s football, Coombe played five professional seasons with Reading FC.
Coombe led Angel City to an 8-5-9 record in her debut season with the team, which was just outside the postseason window. In 2022, the club played its final five games and lost four of them while scoring just three goals overall.
