After a disappointing season, the Golden State Warriors might be considering some bold moves this offseason, including potentially parting ways with Andrew Wiggins to alleviate their financial burden.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report suggests a trade scenario involving Wiggins heading to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Kelly Olynyk and Jalen McDaniels. This move would not only shed Wiggins’ hefty $26.2 million salary but also bring in players who could contribute to the Warriors’ rotation.
“With Wiggins’ $26.2 million salary, the Dubs might want to dial back their spending,” Buckley explains. “This deal not only saves them money but also adds a stretch centre and a three-and-D swingman to their roster.”
While Wiggins has shown flashes of brilliance, his performance this season fell short of expectations, averaging only 13 points per game on subpar shooting percentages. This decline raises questions about his long-term fit with the Warriors.
Trading Wiggins could open up cap space for the Warriors to pursue other avenues while acquiring Olynyk—a versatile stretch big—could add depth and flexibility to their frontcourt.
Despite Wiggins’ past contributions, it might be time for the Warriors to explore new options and consider reshaping their roster for the future.
